Architectural Designer, Morrissey Design LLC
Originally from Taiwan’s beautiful Chia-Yi County, Ting Kuo grew up in suburbs surrounded by nature; taking long hikes in the mountains and along lively streams. “I’ve always wanted to create spaces for humans and nature to connect and thrive together,” she says. “I learned how important it is to utilize spaces efficiently, recycle and reuse materials, and create harmony between people and the environment.” Since then, Ting has traveled throughout Asia and North America, and draws inspiration not only from many styles of architecture and design, but from the ways different cultures around the world interact with their environments.
Ting received her BS and Master of Architecture from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA—a city where neoclassical architecture inspired her at an early age, and where she is now a member of the Morrissey team. In addition to efficiency and sustainability, Ting’s work at Morrissey explores experience and craft in architecture. Her projects realize a balance between fresh design perspectives, and celebrations of local traditions and character.
With a knack for anything one might call hand-crafted—from drawing and painting, to pottery and even construction—Ting has a deep understanding of structures and materials, and how we move around and interact with them. For her, architecture is a practical way to materialize and preserve culture and experiences. “Nothing is long lasting except people’s memories,” she says. “I want to create places that inspire and maintain memorable experiences.”
