This project is M Architects’ take on one of Philadelphia’s most iconic architectural features: the row house. Our modern design pays homage to this quintessential form, while redefining what it means to make the most of a home in the city.
Taking advantage of the site’s natural grading and length, this project is composed of two connected volumes with cut-out courtyards that double as sources of natural light and spaces for enjoying the outdoors. Each courtyard, along with the spacious rooftop deck accessible through the master bedroom, is lined with wood paneling that adds texture and warmth.
The front two-story volume features a sleek dark brick facade, with an indented wood-lined entrance and second-floor balcony. At three stories high, the second volume is lined with an elegant combination of white and grey metal paneling. From materials to form, we designed this row home to maximize light, mobility, and connections between indoor and outdoor spaces. The result reimagines the standard row house with versatility and style.
