4710 WOODLAND AVENUE
Philadelphia, PA
Client: AXE Philly
Services: Architecture
Status: Under Construction
This 3-story contemporary infill project challenged us to innovate on an irregular site. The resulting development features a combination of residential units and retail space in an eye-catching addition to a classic West Philly neighborhood.
Our unique design splits the basement and ground floor of this development into two bi-level units. Our client, Axe Philly, will be making one of these their new headquarters. The remaining space is all residential and also includes a stylish second-floor flat and an airy top-floor loft with a mezzanine.
We designed the development with different entrances for the retail and residential units, which allows for easy movement and a seamless relationship between these spaces. In a sunken garden between the entrances, live walls and cozy modern decor make for an attractive and inviting entryway.
The base of this development is of white roman-style brick installed vertically, which mirrors the project’s tall, narrow design. Large windows, flat steel panels, and metal slats in dark tones make up the rest of the facade and contribute a dynamic but subtle range of lines and texture. Inside, wood ceilings and floors and warm lighting add a sense of comfort that echoes the
charming appeal of the surrounding neighborhood.
