Client: Main Street Development
Services: Architecture
Status: Under Construction
Tucked away between two beloved Philadelphia neighborhoods, this development is the first phase of our client’s plan to revitalize an exciting location. As we play our role in reimagining this previously-industrial zone into a new neighborhood, we seek to combine the established, historic charm of East Falls with the up-and-coming, creative energy of Brewery Town. This 7-story mixed-use complex features 176 residential units, 50 spaces of underground parking, and ground floor retail space set to become a local attraction. The development also includes a ground-floor swimming pool and fitness center. Above the gym, each second floor apartment has a private terrace with access to a roof garden designed to provide efficient stormwater management. A roof deck can also be accessed from the top floor. On the ground floor, striking orange entryways set against the building’s dark stone base mark each retail space. The same bright color highlights the main residential entrance and an upper-level terrace lounge with views of the city. From the second to sixth floors, these moments of color are accentuated by a facade of metal panels in varied silver hues. The seventh floor, which is set back from the other stories, has a stone facade that mirrors the base.
As we recontextualize these classic materials in exciting ways, our design both references and reimagines the history of this site, taking inspiration from the area’s industrial history while setting the stage for a new era.
