As evidenced by carefully chosen materials and a simple but striking silhouette, we approached this project with extra sensitivity towards the historic fabric of its iconic location. Before it became a parking lot, the site was occupied by a lumber millwork company: a two-story stone masonry building with double hung windows, wooden detailing, and a large garage entry. Our
design takes inspiration from this classic industrial aesthetic, and incorporates many of these materials into a unique contemporary development.
The building’s front facade of whitewashed brick is graceful and modern, but retains variations in color and texture that also evoke a classic masonry style. Vertical brick piers articulate this front facade, and horizontal bands similarly detail the sides of the building, which are lined with sleek standing seam panels. Our own double hung windows feature black metal frames and divided
lights, which make for a perfect combination of the industrial and domestic.
This 5-story, multi-family residential development features 32 residential units, ground floor parking, and a green roof deck. An internal cutout courtyard provides excellent natural lighting and spacious balconies for a number of units, and combination of bronze detailing and light fixtures add color and warmth to both the facade and interior spaces. With a seamless mix of
historical elements and the best of our unique contemporary approach, this is a timeless design that will make you pause and wonder if it might not have been there all along.
